Good ride on the bike today. Decided to pick up new grips for my Katana. I really want to upgrade the grips, as it should reduce the numb hands I'm getting on the bike now. I start to unscrew the first handlebar weight and I can't get it to budge. I put some WD40 in it and it comes out no problem. I put WD40 on the other one and start to unscrew it. After applying some torque to the screwdriver it turns. The problem is that the screw driver turned and the screw didn't. Basically the screw is stripped. So now I'm going to need to drill it out. Tomorrow I'm going to try to drill out the screw head and then hopefully pop off the weight.
The problem is that the screw it uses is a 6mmx50mm (or 55mm I really think) and home depot doesn't have that screw in stock (they have it as a bolt but not as a screw). So tomorrow I'm going to call up the Suzuki dealer and see if they might have it in stock, or a weight upgrade kit (with screws). This is of course assuming that I can actually drill the screw head off. If I can't and need to drill into the weight it's not bad for the bike, it's just more than I want to do.
Let's hope for the best tomorrow.
