Good ride on the bike today. Decided to pick up new grips for my Katana. I really want to upgrade the grips, as it should reduce the numb hands I'm getting on the bike now. I start to unscrew the first handlebar weight and I can't get it to budge. I put some WD40 in it and it comes out no problem. I put WD40 on the other one and start to unscrew it. After applying some torque to the screwdriver it turns. The problem is that the screw driver turned and the screw didn't. Basically the screw is stripped. So now I'm going to need to drill it out. Tomorrow I'm going to try to drill out the screw head and then hopefully pop off the weight.

The problem is that the screw it uses is a 6mmx50mm (or 55mm I really think) and home depot doesn't have that screw in stock (they have it as a bolt but not as a screw). So tomorrow I'm going to call up the Suzuki dealer and see if they might have it in stock, or a weight upgrade kit (with screws). This is of course assuming that I can actually drill the screw head off. If I can't and need to drill into the weight it's not bad for the bike, it's just more than I want to do.

Let's hope for the best tomorrow.

  • Katana is the model name of my motorcycle.
  • Grips are the plastic things you grip on the handlebars

Bi Personals Site Boots Trans Member

as reported in Bay Windows by Ethan Jacobs staff reporter
Wednesday July 2nd 2008 and UPDATED July 3 2008

When Nick Teich created a free account on the online personals site
BisexualDatingNow.com last week, he decided to disclose that he is
transgender. Perhaps he shouldn't have.

"They say, tell us about yourself in your own words. And I stated,
'I'm a 25-year old trans guy living in Boston.' . . . I didn't want
to mislead anyone looking at my profile, so that's why I put that,"
said Teich. Within a day he had received three "smiles," which
members send to express their interest in getting to know each other.

Teich thought little of his decision until he wrote to the site's
customer service staff about a problem he was having using the site.
He exchanged e-mails with a customer service representative named
Kiar Dupuis, and after reading his profile Dupuis informed him that
the site does not allow transgender users.

"I am sorry, as a transgender, our site would not meet your needs. I
am afraid we have to remove your profile," wrote Dupuis, according to
an e-mail provided to Bay Windows by Teich. His profile was deleted
shortly after he received the e-mail.

Woo! This is fun! Lots of reminiscing with my brother. Logan's on his way. Have eaten a lot of roasted marshmallows, and one roasted hot dog. And have acquired 3542547254 mosquito bites.

The only interest that I'm not familiar with, and, indeed, interested in, is Nomy Lamm. And now that I've familiarized myself, I am quite interested!

(and especially amusingly, I just finished [finally] reading Fat!So? this morning)

Worst possible idea
RTA considers raising fares, cutting routes and jobs

Increasing fares, yes.

Cutting routes and jobs -- horrible idea. Exactly the opposite of what we desperately need in an economic tailspin with a huge increase in gas costs.

*sigh* We'll see what happens. I'm concerned.

All Packed...
[info]grf and I leave after I get off work for Baltimore. I woke up at 3:30 or so, and have been packing, burning CDs, clearing out the DVR, and all the other trivia before I head out. Really should go back to sleep, but I'm all bouncy and excited.

Two bike related updates
So I rode my motorcycle into the office today. That in and of itself isn't unusual, I do it somewhat often and it actually saves me time because I get to use HOV. Due to the danger of road rash I don't want to wear dress pants on the bike so I always wear blue jeans when riding. However my office has a dress code and as such denim pants aren't acceptable. So when I get to the office I need to change out of the jeans and into dress pants. The problem is that my office doesn't actually have a true "changing/locker" room, this leaves me with two options. I could change in a stall in the bathroom or I change in the "nursing room". The nursing room is a room that was originally set aside for nursing mothers to lactate and save the milk but in actuality the room is rarely used. So the motorcyclist at the company have gotten permission to change into work appropriate clothing there after arriving. Of course the general employee population is not aware of this so I've gotten quite a few stares as I've entered or exited the nursing room. Honestly this doesn't bother me but I'd love to know what they are thinking.

There is actually a MUCH better solution to this problem but I refuse to do it because of the image it would project. If I were to buy a pair of motorcycle chaps I could wear them over my dress pants. The chaps would provide greater protection than the denim, they would be easier to take on and off, they would even eliminate my need to use the nursing room. There's just ONE problem. ..... I'd own a pair of assless chaps, and I'm not sure the jokes would ever stop (and yes I'm looking at you Mr [info]whuey and Mr [info]nonumnos.

While thinking about going to LosCon ...
... I hit up the registration page to check the prices. Pretty reasonable. But the wording just struck me as funny.

***

"We look forward to seeing you at Loscon 35. You can preregister using the Paypal links below:

Adult Membership
$35
(over 12 yrs)

Child Membership
$15
(4 - 12 yrs)"

Does that mean you have to pay $35 over 12 years? That's like $2.50 a year! And if you are a child, you can take up to 12 years to pay the $15 membership price. Talk about reasonable!

Max Martin wins again.
Okay, confession time. I admit it, I watch the 90s countdown shows on VH1 just in case there are random Backstreet appearances. Tonight for instance, Top 100 Greatest Songs of the 90s, and they clock in at #3 with IWITW.

Warped @ Mile High - '08-06-29
Got to Mile High about 11:15 and met up with [info]packmentality not too longer after. First thing we did was try and find the set listing board which was inconveniently placed at the complete opposite side of the grounds from the entrances. I'm glad I brought a pen and paper 'cause I referred to the times I wrote down a lot. The Rest: )

100 calls before noon?
Looks like I'll get there. I'm already at 105 total, 94 new, and there's still 18 minutes to go. Oy.

They've stolen several of our people away for training, during our busiest day of the week. And the training is for yet more apps that are getting dumped in our laps without an increase in staffing.
